Massage therapy for every stage of life

When your body is sore, tight or simply not feeling like itself, the right massage can make a real difference in how you move through your day. Pregnancy can bring back, hip and rib discomfort that seems to change by the week, while feeding and carrying a baby can leave your neck and shoulders doing far more work than they are used to. You might be recovering postpartum, dealing with an old injury that has suddenly made itself known again, or simply feeling the effects of everyday life. Our Registered Massage Therapists in Toronto and Newmarket take the time to understand what is going on with your body and what you need from your appointment, then tailor your treatment from there. You do not need a referral, and you certainly do not need to be pregnant or postpartum to come see us.

Whether you’re preparing for pregnancy, recovering postpartum, supporting your child’s growth, or moving through hormonal shifts in perimenopause, our massage therapy services are tailored to your body’s unique needs.

Our massage therapy services include:

    • Prenatal massage, with positioning and pressure adapted throughout pregnancy
    • Postpartum massage for muscle tension and the physical demands of feeding, carrying and lifting a baby
    • Massage while trying to conceive, with a focus on relaxation and muscle tension
    • Infant and child massage, using gentle, age-appropriate techniques
    • Massage during perimenopause and menopause for muscle tension, stiffness, soreness and relaxation

Some of our RMTs also work with infants and children and can show parents simple massage techniques they can use at home. At Oona, your massage is tailored to what you came in for, what we find and what feels comfortable for you that day.

Massage therapy for pregnancy, postpartum and everyday life

Our registered massage therapists support people through pregnancy, postpartum recovery and the many physical changes that come with caring for a family. They also provide care for people who are managing persistent muscle tension, old injuries, headaches, sore hips, back pain or the everyday strain of work and life.

Prenatal massage in Toronto and Newmarket

Prenatal massage can help ease the tension that often builds through the hips, lower back, ribs, neck and shoulders as your body changes. Our registered massage therapists use comfortable positioning and pregnancy-specific techniques, adapting your appointment to where you are in pregnancy and what your body needs that day.

Postpartum massage and recovery

Feeding, carrying, lifting and spending long periods in one position can leave your neck, shoulders, wrists, upper back, hips and lower back working harder than usual. Postpartum massage can address that physical strain while giving you time to notice what your body has been asking for.

Registered massage therapy for the whole family

Massage therapy is not only for pregnancy and postpartum care. Oona’s RMTs also provide care for partners, parents, grandparents, teens and children, including support for muscle tension, headaches, old injuries and the physical demands of everyday life.

Fertility massage in Toronto & Newmarket

Trying to conceive can take a lot out of you

Trying to get pregnant can start to feel very medical very quickly, especially when appointments, testing or fertility treatment become part of the process. Massage won’t change the underlying causes of infertility, but it can give you some time to slow down, address muscle tension and have an appointment that is simply about how your body feels that day.

Our Registered Massage Therapists can tailor treatment to what feels comfortable for you while you’re trying to conceive or going through fertility treatment. If you’re also working with a fertility clinic or other healthcare provider, let your RMT know so they can adapt your appointment where needed.

Our founder, Dr. Sarah Mickeler, struggled with infertility and knows only too well the feelings that come along with it, including the stresses that accompany medical fertility treatments.

Prenatal & Postpartum Massage Therapy in Toronto & Newmarket

Massage therapy can help with the physical changes of pregnancy and postpartum

Pregnancy can bring changes in the hips, lower back, ribs, legs, neck and shoulders, sometimes changing from one week to the next. Our Registered Massage Therapists adapt positioning, pressure and treatment to your stage of pregnancy and what feels comfortable for you that day.

After birth, feeding, carrying, lifting and spending long stretches in the same position can create a whole new set of sore spots. Postpartum massage can help with muscle tension and discomfort while your body adjusts to the physical demands of caring for a baby.

Registered Massage Therapy treatments in Newmarket & Toronto will increase your overall feeling of well-being while addressing muscle soreness or tension.

How we adapt massage during pregnancy

Our Registered Massage Therapists adjust positioning, pressure and treatment throughout pregnancy based on what feels comfortable for you and anything relevant in your health history. Side-lying with supportive pillows is a common option during pregnancy, and your therapist can adjust your position as needed. ACOG

  • We use supportive pillows and bolsters to keep you comfortable throughout your appointment.
  • Pressure and positioning can be changed at any time depending on how you’re feeling that day.
  • After birth, massage can also be adapted around C-section or perineal healing, feeding positions, muscle tension and the physical demands of carrying and caring for a baby.
  • If you have a health concern, complication or anything you’re unsure about during pregnancy or postpartum, tell your RMT so they can decide what is appropriate for your appointment and whether another healthcare provider should be involved.

Massage Therapy is complementary with all of Oona’s Fertility, Prenatal, and Postpartum services in Newmarket and Toronto.

Massage for Perimenopause & Menopause in Toronto & Newmarket

Massage therapy for muscle tension, stress and changing sleep

Perimenopause and menopause can come with changes in sleep, stress levels, joint and muscle discomfort, and how your body feels day to day. Massage therapy can be a useful way to address muscle tension, stiffness and soreness while giving you time to slow down and reset.

Your RMT can tailor pressure and treatment to what is bothering you most, whether that is tension through your neck and shoulders, sore hips and lower back, headaches related to muscle tension, or simply feeling more uncomfortable in your body than usual.

Massage will not treat the hormonal changes of menopause themselves, but it can be one part of supporting how you feel physically through this stage of life.

Gentle massage for babies and children in Toronto and Newmarket

Babies and children can have massage too. Our RMTs who work with infants and children use gentle, age-appropriate techniques and adapt every appointment to the child in front of them. Parents often come in because their baby seems uncomfortable or gassy, or because they’d like to learn simple ways to use massage as part of their time together.

Your RMT can also show you a few gentle techniques to use at home, including ways to massage your baby’s legs, tummy or back when appropriate. If something your child is experiencing needs assessment beyond massage therapy, we’ll always recommend involving the appropriate healthcare provider.

Massage can be so helpful in getting things moving for them. Regular massage can help your little one feel their best.

Massage Therapy at Oona: Frequently Asked Questions

During pregnancy, we usually use side-lying positioning with plenty of pillows and support so you can settle in comfortably. Your RMT will adjust your position throughout the appointment based on your stage of pregnancy and what feels best for you.

Massage can be appropriate throughout pregnancy for many people, with positioning, pressure and treatment adapted as your pregnancy progresses. Let your RMT know about anything relevant in your health history or pregnancy so they can tailor your appointment appropriately.

If you have a pregnancy complication or your healthcare provider has given you specific activity or treatment restrictions, check with them before booking.

Massage can be a helpful part of postpartum recovery, especially for the muscle tension that can come with feeding, carrying, lifting and spending long stretches in the same positions. Your RMT can adapt treatment around how you gave birth, how you’re healing and what feels comfortable for you.

If you had a C-section, scar-specific work may also be considered once the incision has healed and it is appropriate for you. Massage doesn’t replace medical care for your recovery, but it can help with some of the soreness and physical strain that comes with the postpartum period.
