Custom Orthotics

Postpartum family walking outside

Supporting you from the ground up

Every step of your journey matters. Whether you’re navigating pregnancy changes, chasing little ones around, or simply want your whole family to feel their best, custom orthotics can make all the difference.

Why custom orthotics at Oona?

Your feet do incredible work—especially during pregnancy when your body is constantly changing. Relaxin hormone softens ligaments, your center of gravity shifts, and your feet literally expand to support your growing family. We get it, and we’re here to help you feel supported, comfortable, and confident with every step.

Our chiropractors take a whole-person approach to foot health. In just 30 minutes, we’ll assess how you move, understand your unique needs, and create custom insoles designed specifically for your body and your life.

What to expect

Your custom orthotics fitting is straightforward and comfortable:

  • Biomechanical assessment to understand how your body moves
  • Gait analysis to see how you walk and where you need support
  • 3D foot scan for precise measurements
  • Same-day ordering if orthotics are right for you
  • Ready in about 10 business days (sometimes a bit longer during busy times)

Simple, transparent pricing

Custom orthotics assessment: $110 (includes biomechanical exam, gait analysis, and 3D foot scan.)

Custom orthotics: $575 per pair (includes manufacturing, fitting, and follow-up care)

Here’s the best part: Your assessment fee is deducted from the orthotics cost if you decide to order them the same day. This means your total investment is just $575 for both assessment and custom orthotics.

Insurance & coverage

Most extended health insurance plans cover custom orthotics! While we don’t need a prescription to provide them, most insurance companies do require one for coverage. We recommend checking with your provider about your specific coverage details.

Please note: We’ll provide all the paperwork you need for your insurance claim, but you’ll need to submit it directly using your pickup date. We can’t bill insurance directly for orthotics, but we’re here to help make the process as smooth as possible.

Custom orthotics are available at both our Toronto and Newmarket locations. Because feeling good in your body shouldn’t be something you have to think about—it should just happen, every step of the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your 30-minute assessment is thorough but comfortable. Our chiropractor will take time to listen to your concerns and gather your health history, then conduct a comprehensive examination that may include your back, pelvis, hips, and lower extremities. We’ll analyze how you walk, assess your foot structure, and complete a 3D foot scan. If you have any previous X-rays or medical reports related to your foot or back pain, please bring them along.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes early and bring:

  • A few pairs of your most frequently worn shoes (including work shoes, sneakers, dress shoes)
  • Any old orthotics you’d like us to evaluate
  • Your insurance card
  • Any X-rays, medical reports, or lab results related to your concern
  • Comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your feet and legs

Our assessment fee is $110, which includes your biomechanical exam, gait analysis, and 3D foot scan. Custom orthotics are $575 per pair, and your assessment fee is deducted from the orthotics cost if you decide to order them the same day. This makes your total investment $575 for assessment and orthotics combined.

Your custom orthotics typically arrive within 10 business days of your assessment (sometimes a bit longer during busy periods like December). Once they arrive, we’ll reach out to you to let you know they have arrived, and provide our office hours of pick-up.

Most extended health insurance plans cover custom orthotics! We’ll provide you with all the paperwork and reports needed for your insurance claim. However, it’s your responsibility to check with your insurance provider about:

  • Your specific coverage details and limits
  • Whether you need a prescription from a medical doctor (some companies don’t accept prescriptions from chiropractors)
  • How many pairs you’re eligible for per year
  • Your reimbursement process

Important: OHIP (provincial insurance) does NOT cover custom orthotics, and we cannot directly bill insurance for orthotics. You’ll need to submit your claim using the dispensing date (when you pick them up).

While we don’t require a prescription to provide custom orthotics, most insurance companies do require one for coverage. If you’re planning to claim through insurance, we recommend getting a prescription from your family doctor or walk-in clinic before your appointment. Some insurance companies accept prescriptions from chiropractors, but many don’t—check with your provider first.

We include follow-up care to ensure your orthotics work perfectly for you. If minor adjustments are needed within the first few weeks, we’ll take care of that. During your first couple of weeks wearing orthotics, some mild discomfort in your feet, arches, or legs is normal—it’s actually a sign that they’re working! However, if discomfort continues beyond a few weeks, contact us for an adjustment.

Your orthotics are designed to work with your everyday footwear. We recommend wearing them consistently—at work, at home, and during activities—for the best results. They work like prescription glasses: they provide support when you’re wearing them. Bring your most-worn shoes to your assessment so we can ensure proper fit.

With proper care, custom orthotics typically last 3-5 years, though this varies based on your activity level and how much you wear them. Active individuals or those who wear them daily may need replacement sooner. We’ll let you know what to expect based on your lifestyle.

Great question! Pregnancy can cause permanent changes to foot size and shape due to relaxin hormone and weight changes. We’ll discuss this during your assessment and may recommend timing your orthotics to account for these changes, or planning for adjustments post-delivery.

Absolutely! We provide custom orthotics for children and teens. Growing feet have different needs than adult feet, and we’ll assess whether orthotics are appropriate for your child’s age and developmental stage.

We require at least 48 hours notice for cancellations so we can offer your appointment to another family who needs care. Late cancellations (less than 48 hours) may incur a fee.
