Oona started as a dream — a faraway thought, really. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought we’d be where we are today. In the span of two years we’ve opened two clinic locations, one in Toronto and another in Newmarket hired a roster of incredible staff and helped hundreds of women through pregnancy and postpartum.
I’ve always been an advocate for women’s health, but after having my own son did I realize the full state of prenatal and postnatal care in Toronto. Believe it or not, as developed as this city is — there was no one-stop shop that could provide women well-rounded health and wellness care throughout their journey through Motherhood. When I realized that, I knew I had to do something about it.
I have to admit, starting Oona wasn’t easy. But then again, when has anything worth fighting for been easy? There’s been a lot of major learning curves and reality checks along the way — but we’re growing, learning and constantly improving and making a difference in women’s lives.
Being featured on Women of Influence alongside other incredible, entrepreneurial Canadian women is truly humbling. But honestly, Oona wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for my amazing, hardworking team. They’re the ones working the frontlines, day in and day out. I also wouldn’t be able to do this if it weren’t for my rockstar husband who not only keeps me sane but literally helped BUILD the clinics. It quite honestly takes a village to raise this baby of mine, but I’m so incredibly lucky and grateful for everyone that’s stood by me.
This is only the beginning for us. As we continue you grow, my next big dream is taking Oona across the country. Every woman deserves the high-level pregnancy and post-natal care that we provide — my mission is to make it available to them.
