What can pelvic floor physiotherapy help with?
Most people do not book pelvic floor physio because they want a stronger pelvic floor. They book because they want to run without leaking, stop planning their day around bathrooms, lift their child without feeling pressure, have sex without pain, feel more comfortable during pregnancy, or understand why their body still does not feel quite right after birth.
Pelvic floor concerns can show up in lots of different ways, and sometimes something you have been putting up with for months or even years is very treatable.
- Urinary leaking or incontinence
- Bladder urgency and frequency
- Pelvic organ prolapse, pressure or heaviness
- Pelvic, tailbone, hip or low-back pain
- Pain with sex or penetration
- Constipation or difficulty emptying your bowels
- C-section or perineal scar concerns
- Diastasis recti and core rehabilitation
- Pelvic pain or discomfort during pregnancy
- Postpartum recovery and return to exercise
You do not have to wait until something feels seriously wrong, either. We see people during pregnancy who want to prepare for birth, after birth when they want to understand how they are healing, and before returning to running, lifting or higher-impact exercise.
The point is not to hand you a list of pelvic floor exercises and send you home. We want to understand what your body is doing, why the concern may be happening, and what will actually help you get back to the things that matter to you.
What happens at your first appointment
Your first visit is 60 minutes, which gives us time to hear what has been going on, what is bothering you most, and what you would like to be able to do more comfortably. Your physiotherapist will look at your pelvic floor as part of the bigger picture, including your breathing, core, hips, back and how your body is moving.
An internal pelvic assessment can give us useful information for some concerns, but it is never automatic and it is never required. Your physiotherapist will explain what they recommend and why before anything happens, and you can say yes, no, not today, change your mind or stop at any point.
Before you leave, you will know what we found, what you can start working on, and whether follow-up care makes sense. If we recommend another visit, we will explain why.
Meet your Toronto pelvic floor physiotherapy team
We take a lot of care choosing who joins Oona. Excellent clinical training and real pelvic health experience are essential, but so is the way someone cares for people. We want you to feel listened to, comfortable asking questions, and clear about what your physiotherapist is recommending and why.
If someone has been recommended to you, absolutely book with them. If not, you do not need to compare every bio or work out who is the perfect fit before you come in. Choose the appointment time that works best for you. Every pelvic floor physiotherapist on our Toronto team has been carefully chosen by us, and we would be completely comfortable having you see any one of them.
Pelvic health is a specialty here
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is not a small part of a general physio practice at Oona. Our team works with pelvic health every day, through pregnancy and postpartum, for bladder and bowel concerns, pelvic pain, painful sex, prolapse, core rehabilitation, return to exercise and concerns that can appear years after having a baby.
We also know that bodies do not divide themselves neatly into specialties. Your pelvic floor can be connected to what is happening with your core, your back, your hips, pregnancy recovery, feeding positions, sleep, stress and all the other things going on in your life. If pelvic physio is all you need, that is all you need. If another kind of support at Oona would genuinely be useful, your physiotherapist can help connect those pieces without leaving you to start the search all over again.
- Pelvic health expertise through pregnancy, postpartum, midlife and beyond

Common questions
Do I need a referral for pelvic floor physiotherapy?
No. You can book directly with us. Some extended health plans require a physician's referral before they will reimburse physiotherapy, so it is worth checking the details of your plan.
Do I need to be pregnant or postpartum?
No. We see people during pregnancy and postpartum, but pelvic floor physiotherapy can also help with concerns unrelated to pregnancy, concerns that began years after birth, and pelvic health changes through perimenopause and menopause.
How soon after birth can I see a pelvic floor physiotherapist?
You can book whenever you need support. The timing and focus of the appointment will depend on how you are healing, what you are dealing with and what feels comfortable for you. You do not have to wait for a particular milestone simply to ask questions or get guidance.
Will I have to have an internal pelvic floor assessment?
No. An internal assessment can provide useful information for some concerns, but it is not automatic and it is never required. Your physiotherapist will explain what they recommend and why, and you decide what you are comfortable with.
Can I bring my baby?
Yes. Your baby is welcome in the treatment room. On-site childminding may also be available during select appointments with advance booking.
How many pelvic floor physio appointments will I need?
There is no set number. It depends on the concern, what we find during your assessment and what you want to work toward. We will explain what we recommend after your first visit so you know what the plan is and why.
Which Toronto pelvic floor physiotherapist should I book with?
If someone has been recommended to you, choose them when you book. Otherwise, pick the appointment time that works best for you. Alison, Arzoo, Jesika and Rasika are all part of our Toronto pelvic health team, and we have chosen every member of that team carefully.
Book your pelvic floor physiotherapy assessment
You do not have to know exactly what is causing the concern before you come in, and you do not have to figure out which physiotherapist is the perfect match. Choose a Toronto appointment that works for you and we will start there. Your first visit gives us a full hour to listen, assess what may be contributing, and make a plan around what you actually want to feel or do differently.
