What can pelvic floor physiotherapy help with?
Pelvic floor concerns are not always obvious. You may notice leaking when you run or sneeze, an urge to pee that suddenly feels impossible to ignore, pressure or heaviness as the day goes on, pain with intimacy, constipation, or a core that still does not feel quite right after pregnancy or birth. Sometimes the concern has been there for so long that you have simply learned how to work around it.
- Urinary leaking or incontinence
- Bladder urgency and frequency
- Pelvic organ prolapse, pressure or heaviness
- Pelvic, tailbone, hip or low-back pain
- Pain with sex or penetration
- Constipation or difficulty emptying your bowels
- C-section or perineal scar concerns
- Diastasis recti and core rehabilitation
- Pelvic pain or discomfort during pregnancy
- Postpartum recovery and return to exercise
What we are working toward depends on you. It might be getting through a workout without leaking, being able to leave the house without thinking about the nearest bathroom, lifting your child without heaviness, having sex without pain, feeling more comfortable during pregnancy, or feeling ready to return to running after birth.
You can also book before there is a problem. Pelvic floor physio can be useful during pregnancy, while preparing for birth, during postpartum recovery, or before returning to running, lifting and higher-impact exercise.
What happens at your first appointment
Your first visit is 60 minutes, so there is time to talk through what has been happening, what is bothering you most, and what you would like to be able to do more comfortably. Your physiotherapist will look at your pelvic floor as part of the bigger picture, including your breathing, core, hips, back and how your body is moving.
An internal pelvic assessment can give us useful information for some concerns, but it is never automatic and it is never required. Your physiotherapist will explain what they recommend and why before anything happens. You can say yes, no, not today, change your mind or stop at any point.
Before you leave, you will know what we found, what you can start working on, and whether follow-up care makes sense. If we recommend another appointment, we will explain why.
Meet your Newmarket pelvic floor physiotherapy team
We take a lot of care choosing who joins Oona. Excellent clinical training and pelvic health experience matter, but so does the way someone cares for you. We want you to feel listened to, comfortable asking questions, and clear about what your physiotherapist is recommending and why.
If someone has been recommended to you, absolutely book with them. If not, you do not need to compare every bio before making an appointment. Jennifer, Marianna and Pooneh are all experienced pelvic health physiotherapists, so you can simply choose the time that works best for you and know you are in good hands.
Pelvic health is a specialty here
Our Newmarket physiotherapists work with pelvic health through pregnancy, postpartum and beyond, including bladder and bowel concerns, pelvic pain, painful sex, prolapse, diastasis recti, core rehabilitation and returning to exercise. They are not looking at the pelvic floor in isolation, because what is happening with your core, hips, back, breathing and everyday movement can all be part of the picture.
Oona is also built for the times when care overlaps. If pelvic physio is all you need, that is all you need. If another kind of support would genuinely be useful, your physiotherapist can connect you with the right person here and work together, so you are not left figuring out the next step on your own.
- Pelvic health expertise through pregnancy, postpartum, midlife and beyond
- Whole-body assessment rather than treating one concern in isolation
- A collaborative Oona team when your care overlaps
- Evening appointments and online booking
- Direct insurance billing where available
Cost, insurance and direct billing
There are no treatment packages to buy. You pay for the appointment you book, and after your assessment we will explain what follow-up care, if any, we think would be useful.

| Follow-up, 30 minutes | $120 |
| Extended follow-up, 45 minutes | $149 |
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is billed as registered physiotherapy and may be covered by your extended health plan. We can bill many insurers directly where possible. If we cannot direct bill your plan, you will receive a receipt to submit.

Common questions
Do I need a referral for pelvic floor physiotherapy?
No. You can book directly with us. Some extended health plans require a physician's referral before they will reimburse physiotherapy, so it is worth checking your individual plan.
Do I need to be pregnant or postpartum?
No. We see people during pregnancy and postpartum, but pelvic floor physiotherapy can also help with concerns unrelated to pregnancy, concerns that began years after birth, and pelvic health changes through perimenopause and menopause.
How soon after birth can I see a pelvic floor physiotherapist?
You can book whenever you need support. The timing and focus of the appointment will depend on how you are healing, what you are dealing with and what feels comfortable for you. You do not need to wait for a particular milestone simply to ask questions or get guidance.
Will I have to have an internal pelvic floor assessment?
No. An internal assessment can provide useful information for some concerns, but it is not automatic and it is never required. Your physiotherapist will explain what they recommend and why, and you decide what you are comfortable with.
Can I bring my baby?
Yes. Your baby is welcome in the treatment room. Strollers are welcome inside the clinic, and on-site childminding may also be available during select appointments with advance booking.
How many pelvic floor physio appointments will I need?
There is no set number. It depends on the concern, what we find during your assessment and what you want to work toward. We will explain what we recommend after your first visit so you know what the plan is and why.
Which Newmarket pelvic floor physiotherapist should I book with?
If someone has been recommended to you, choose them when you book. Otherwise, pick the appointment time that works best for you. Jennifer, Marianna and Pooneh are all part of our Newmarket pelvic health team, and we have chosen every member of that team carefully.
Book your pelvic floor physiotherapy assessment
You do not have to know exactly what is causing the concern before you come in, and you do not have to figure out which physiotherapist is the perfect match. Choose a Newmarket appointment that works for you and we will start there. Your first visit gives us a full hour to listen, assess what may be contributing, and make a plan around what you actually want to feel or do differently.
